7. Hazard Control

Remember this sequence:

ELIMINATE → ISOLATE → MINIMISE/CONTROL

If possible, eliminate the hazard at its source. If that is not possible, isolate it. If it still cannot be eliminated or isolated, reduce the likelihood of injury using appropriate control measures and protective equipment.


8. Safety Checklist

Remember these important rules:

  • Store cleaning chemicals safely.

  • Keep the workplace clean.

  • Provide proper lighting.

  • Do not wear loose clothing/jewellery near machinery.

  • Use protective equipment where required.

  • Shut down machines before leaving.

  • Do not play with electrical controls.

  • Use machinery only after proper training.

  • Repair damaged wires/plugs.

  • Do not use smoking/sparking equipment.

  • Report unsafe conditions.


9. Fire Safety

Remember:

Class A → Wood, cloth, paper
Class B → Liquids, grease, gases
Class C → Electrical materials/equipment
Class D → Combustible metals such as magnesium, potassium, sodium

Also remember:

  • Know the location of fire extinguishers.

  • Know emergency exits.

  • Do not block exits.

  • Do not block fire extinguishers.

  • Keep flammable materials away from ignition sources.

  • Fire equipment should be inspected regularly.


10. Evacuation

Emergency → Exit → Stairs → Assembly Area

During evacuation:

  1. Leave immediately.

  2. Use the nearest emergency exit.

  3. Help people who need assistance where possible.

  4. Do not return for belongings unless the area is declared safe.

  5. Avoid lifts/elevators.

  6. Reach the emergency assembly area.

  7. Report missing colleagues to the appropriate person.


11. Accident Handling

Remember:

ATTEND → INFORM → ASSIST

  • Attend to the injured person.

  • Provide/arrange first aid or medical help.

  • Inform the supervisor.

  • Give details about the accident.

  • Assist in investigating the cause.

  • Help prevent similar accidents in the future.
